Anti-cancer drug helped in Alzheimer's disease

Researchers from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio have reported that an anti-cancer drug i.e. bexarotene has successfully removed the destructive plaques in the mice model of Alzheimer's disease.

They were working on the idea that natural chemical in the body named as apolipoprotein-E or ApoE successfully remove the destructive protein plaques in the brain.

Scientists said that the drug "rapidly lowered" the plaques within six hours after one dose and 25% reduction was sustained even after 70 hours.Theplaques were reduced by 50% after seven days of treatment in older mice.

This research has been published in the journal Science.
