Ancient old forest in China

Researchers have found almost 298 million years old forest hidden in ashes in China. They have observed 1000 square meters of area and three different sites. They have found six groups of trees with some of the trees reaching up to 80 feet height.

"This is the first such forest reconstruction in Asia for any time interval, it's the first of a peat forest for this time interval and it's the first with Noeggerathiales as a dominant group," University of Pennsylvania paleobotanist Hermann Pfefferkorn said. "It's a time capsule."

Researchers have also found the specimens of “Noeggerathiales” i.e. spore bearing trees relating to ferns.
