Age old cricket's love song

Scientists have published a paper in February 6 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) in which they have described the voice of the ancient bush cricket or katydid.

It is 165 million years old katydid, the voice of which has been regenerated. Scientists have used the fossilized wings to reproduce stridulations or sounds, which were probably made to attract the mates.

"This Jurassic bush cricket... helps us learn a little more about the ambiance of a world long gone," said co-author Fernando Montealegre-Zapata of the University of Bristol.

You can listen to the sound below.
